The Soil Association is a charity based in the United Kingdom and its activities include campaign work on issues including opposition to intensive farming, support for local purchasing and public education on nutrition; as well the certification of organic food.
Organic September is a month-long campaign to raise awareness of the many benefits of organic food and farming. On the Soil Association’s website they detail these benefits, which include:
Supporting biodiversity and wildlife
Helping to combat climate change
The highest standards of animal welfare
Reduced exposure to pesticides
Food as it should be, and food you can trust
Organic food is the product of a farming system which avoids the use of man-made fertilisers, pesticides; growth regulators and livestock feed additives. Irradiation and the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or products produced from or by GMOs are generally prohibited by organic legislation.
In the face of climate change, diet related ill-health and widespread decline in wildlife, the need to change our food systems has never been greater.
At Eco Giant we are in total support of Organic September and believe it is a great idea. To do our bit we are going to spend this month promoting certain organic foods and products (check out our latest product reviews of fantastic organic items!) Change starts now.
