Sandbag is a non-profit climate change think tank based in Brussels. The charity uses data analysis to help build evidence-based climate policies. Some of the main objectives Sandbag focuses on include: pushing for strong carbon pricing, and attempting to accelerate the coal phase-out in Europe to ensure all plants are closed before 2030.
At Eco Giant, we support Sanbag due to their superb vision and their overall mission. On their website they detail what they aim to achieve in the long term: “climate policy in Europe and beyond should be robustly designed to drive rapid and cost-effective emissions reductions, towards a net zero economy.” Furthermore, Sandbag goes on to explain how they will attempt to achieve this task: “Our mission is to provide targeted, evidence-based advocacy at the points of highest leverage, with Sandbag’s analysis and data tools being trusted and consulted by key decision-makers.”
Sandbag’s objective and plan of action sound superb, however on this platform we only place our support in charities who have had success in their specific field. A few of Sandbag’s accomplishments include: removing hundreds of millions of ‘unused allowances’ from the oversupplied EU ETS and helping to secure a ban on polluting HFC offset credits.
