Rainforest Alliance

The Rainforest Alliance is an international non-governmental organization based in New York City and Amsterdam, with operations in more than 60 countries. Their mission is as follows “From fighting deforestation and climate change to building economic opportunities and better working conditions for rural people, the Rainforest Alliance is working to solve urgent environmental and social challenges.”

The Rainforest Alliance focuses their attention towards forests, livelihoods, climate and human rights. At Eco Giant we value a variety of issues and it is important that the charities we support do the same. On their website, the Rainforest Alliance detail the problems surrounding the four main factors just mentioned.

“Forests are critical to the survival of every living thing on Earth. They also provide livelihoods for 1.6 billion people. Yet, alarmingly, deforestation rates are accelerating—triggering a global chain reaction of increased greenhouse gas emissions, rising temperatures, and devastating forest fires.”

“Breaking the cycle of rural poverty—and tackling the ensuing impacts for people and nature—is critical for a more sustainable future for us all.”

“Droughts. Floods. Shorter growing seasons. Economic insecurity. Famine. For farmers and forest communities around the world, climate change poses daunting challenges—and disproportionately impacts poor rural communities who depend on the land to live.”

“The sad truth about some of the world's most commonly traded goods—coffee, chocolate, tea, bananas, palm oil, and timber—is that their production often involves human rights abuses.”

Not only do the Rainforest Alliance detail how they aim to combat these issues but they also explain how everyone can make a difference. We encourage you to check out the advice given on their platforms and donate to the Rainforest Alliance. Change starts now.
