3 Ways To Become An Eco Friendly Pet Owner

Owning a pet and remaining eco-friendly can be challenging. At Eco Giant we like to help the community therefore we are going to provide 3 top tips which you should keep in mind if you have a pet.

Number 1 - Use Organic Grooming Products

The best way to control ticks and fleas is grooming your pets regularly. Many conventional flea and tick products such as collars, topical treatments, sprays and dusts contain chemicals that could be risky to our pet's health and human health as well.

The NRDC recommends less toxic products with s-methoprene or pyriproxyfen as ingredients and to avoid products that include synthetic neonicotinoids (like imidacloprid and dinotefuran).

We are not saying you must choose between protecting your pet or protecting the planet. We are encouraging you to always try and do both. For example, we have just recently reviewed an excellent Organic Dog Shampoo which is a great product for your pet and it doesn’t harm the planet!

Number 2 - Prevent Pet Waste

Never leave dog waste on the ground, as rain can carry contaminants into waterways and could make people sick. (Also no one wants to see dog poop on their walk in the park!) Do the right thing and throw your dog’s waste in the bin.

If you are already doing this then well done, however, you must make sure the doggy bags you are using are disposable!

Number 3 - Pick Eco Friendly Toys

The impact of plastic on our planet is clear, therefoerrefain from buying too many plastic toys/supplies for your pet.

Instead, look for second hand toys - maybe from friends and family or try heading down to your local charity shop! You can also do this process both ways. If you purchase a new product for your pet make sure the old toy is given away or at the very least recycled properly!
